Covid 19 coronavirus alert: New Zealand to move to alert 4 lockdown for next four weeks

Schools and non-essential services across New Zealand will be closed for at least the next four weeks after the Government put the country in nationwide lockdown to try to stop the spread of coronavirus. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern acknowledged the magnitude of the measures as she announced them today, but said they could save the lives of tens of thousands of New Zealanders. The country's coronavirus alert level would be raised to level 3 immediately. In 48 hours the alert level would be raised to level 4 - "stay at home" instruction, schools and businesses closed except essential services, severely limited travel - and will remain in place for a minimum of four weeks. The Prime Minister's Office has confirmed that Alert Level 4 will take effect from 11.59pm on Wednesday. Essential services would still be open at both alert levels, she said. "Kiwis - go home ... A Sculpture for Chengdu: Te Ao Hurihuri – The Ever changing world

'Te Ao Hurihuri-The ever changing' world' It was an honour to represent Kirikiriroa Hamilton in China as part of the International Sister city collaboration. About the Sculpture 'Te Ao Hurihuri' - The Ever changing world A Sculpture for Chengdu 'Te Ao Hurihuri' is designed to appear as if made using the iconic New Zealand farming material, No'8 steel wire. A material which has come to symbolise the 'spirit of resourcefulness', of solving problems using lateral thinking and creatively working with what we have - all characteristics of the 'can-do' 'kiwi' attitude. The flowing lines sketch out a 'Tiki', a distinct icon of New Zealand and the wider Pacific. This work attempts to reflect the resilience, strength, dynamic energy and flare of Maori and also tells of 'Maui' the Polynesian hero and adventurer. The more formal structures represent the concept of 'Turangawaewae' a persons 'place to stand' and are in contrast with the flowing lines of the sculpture which…

Bugs! Our Backyard Heroes

Bugs may have a reputation for being small, scaly and scary but some creepy crawlies are actually superheroes in disguise! Bugs! Our Backyard Heroes is a family-friendly, hands-on educational experience that brings visitors face-to-face with some real live mini-monsters. The exhibition explores the secret world of bugs and the vital role they play in our lives without us even realising it! Featuring ‘Eugene’, the giant centipede, and his friends the tree weetaa, stick insects, locusts, crickets, cockroaches and Avondale spiders, the exhibition provides an opportunity to learn about different native species of bugs in New Zealand and the sometimes precarious position they hold in the ecosystem. There are plenty of hands-on activities for youngsters to get involved in, including how to become a citizen scientist and how bugs inspire those on the frontline of technology. Education programmes are available for this exhibition.  (Developed and toured by Puke Ariki. Photo…

5 Tips For Hosting A Successful Garage Sale

Whether you know them as garage or yard sales, you can successfully sell your old items by dragging them onto your lawn and placing stickers on them. While that's the simplified way that yard sales work, it's not far from what really happens. There's more research, marketing and planning that goes into a successful yard sale though. Planning Stages Before bringing all your items out onto your lawn or garage, you should be planning the date as well as bringing your neighbors in on the process. When you have more people selling items, you're likely to attract more people to the yard sale. Having a neighborhood sale is an event that will bring in tons of traffic. While some people might go to one or two yard sales on a Saturday, they'll definitely check out yours if there's a few on the same street. Clean and Organise Once you've decided on a weekend for your garage sale, start cleaning out your garage as well …

Be More Neighbourly

One of the best features of the world wide web is it enables us to connect with our neighbours in new ways. Establishing an online community is an effective way to communicate with those who live in the same area that we would not otherwise be able to. In today's society, many of us are too busy with work, life and family to interact with our neighbours in the traditional ways. And when many of us move around frequently for work or because we’re renters we don’t always have the longevity to establish meaningful relationships.   Whether it is asking for recommendations on restaurants to warnings about break-ins to promoting your business or services, participating in an online community is a great way to be more neighbourly, and being more connected.   Find your neighbour link and stay connected.
